This event followed a year of intense work that began with demolition on 30 April 2019, replacing the old structure that had stood since the 1960s. The renovation was part of a broader project to meet UEFA standards, allowing Atalanta to host Champions League matches in Bergamo starting in the 2020–21 season after playing elsewhere during the initial transition. While the Curva Sud is still undergoing its own reconstruction as of September 2024, the completed North Stand stands ready, mirroring the ambition that drove the club's purchase of the stadium from the comune in May 2017.
